Wedding dress code - 5 tips on how to dress as a guest
A wedding is one of those occasions when we gentlemen have the opportunity to present ourselves in the deluxe version. No wonder we want to look perfect. The right outfit is a priority for many of us, but for some of us choosing the right styling might be challenging. As wedding guests, we want to look elegant, but we also don't want to overdo it with clothes. So how to dress to do not outshine the groom, and at the same time look stylish? Here are some tips that will help you to not only choose the right outfit, but also to avoid the hassle of matching it to the nature of the event.
1. Match the styling to the nature of the wedding
The first thing we should pay attention to when choosing an outfit for a wedding is the dress code. Depending on the nature of the ceremony and the venue, and sometimes also the theme of the wedding, a different type of creation will be required.
Most weddings in Poland require a suit, but there are more and more parties where a less formal dress code applies, such as an outdoor boho party, where you can bet on a little more casual styling. What about a glamour wedding? Such an elegant party requires more formal styling. If you are not sure about the theme of the wedding, and the direction your styling should go, it is best to consult it with the Bride and the Groom.
It’s worth to remember that our clothes should be adapted to the season. In the summer, it is best to focus on thinner, airy fabrics that will provide comfort regardless of weather conditions.
2. Don't overdo it with colors
When choosing wedding outfit, it is worth remembering the principle of less is more. In the case of women, it can be summed up in one sentence: if you are not a bride, avoid the color white, which should be reserved only for her on this day, unless the bride agrees otherwise. When it comes to men and colors, first of all, it is worth paying attention to whether the outfit is not too flashy.
Your outfit doesn’t have to copy your partner’s outfit color. A tie in the shade of her dress? It's an ancient history. Be creative and bet on a less literal indication of who your couple is. A pocket square in the color of her lipstick is a discreet yet suggestive accent that you came together.
To stay on the safe side, opt for subdued colors. A suit in shades of navy blue, gray, brown or timeless black will always defend itself. When it comes to a shirt, beige, off-white or light shades of blue and pink colors will do the work.
Minimalism applies to outfit designs. Subtle ornaments? Of course. Large, eye-catching prints? Definitely not. Unless the wedding is Hawaiian themed. Also, be careful not to overdo it the other way around and dress too dignified. Tailcoat and tuxedo are elegant, but very formal outfits that are reserved for the groom and possibly members of the wedding procession, i.e. for best man or ushers.
3. Stand out in the crowd
For men who value classic and elegance, a formal shirt, preferably made to measure, is always a good choice. It is desired to wear a long-sleeved shirt for a wedding, even if the weather forecast predicts tropical heat. Short sleeves are reserved exclusively for informal occasions, and weddings are certainly not one of them.
When you go for a tailor-made shirt, you can be sure that it will fit perfectly. Made of the fabric you choose, in the color and cut that you feel best in. The ability to choose a specific type of collar or cuffs, and even adding a monogram, will allow you to fully personalize your shirt. You can be sure that none of the guests will appear in the same outfit.
4. Bet on elegant accessories
A perfectly matching tie, pocket square or bow tie are details that can make a difference when it comes to making an impression on your wedding day. It is important not to overdo it with the amount and the color of accessories. Attention to detail matters. Elegant boots. A well-chosen belt. Follow these simple rules and you will avoid the situation where you will feel disguised instead of dressed.
5. Be yourself
Dressing up is one of the important elements of good fun. It is worth taking a few moments to think about how we can adapt our outfit to the nature of the wedding. Let us remember that styling should not only be adapted to the situation, but also to ourselves - our taste, character and personality.
