Dress code on the invitation... and what next?
Weddings, banquets or galas are the events where you should dress appropriate to the occasion and match your styling to the expected dress code. This information is usually provided on the invitations. If you come across something like this, don't worry - dress codes are not designed to cause you problems. It is quite the opposite. The dress code is designed to help you choose the right outfit. We present the most common terms on invitations and suggest how to choose the right clothes so as not to make a mistake and be well prepared for every occasion.
White tie – special tasks outfit
This is the most formal dress code, which was the standard during dinner parties at the beginning of the 20th century. White tie - this requirement on the invitation means that men are expected to wear an elegant black tuxedo, white shirt, white waistcoat, black patent leather shoes and a white bow tie. This is usually the dress code for special events, such as royal balls or Oscar parties, starting after 8 pm. In addition to the term white tie, we can also meet the name full dress meaning the same thing. A particularly important element of this outfit is the shirt. Always white, with a collar that should be high, with straight or slanted ends, e.g. wingtip. We call it a tailcoat collar simply for convenience. The elegance of the shirt is added by the front placket and cuffs fastened with cufflinks.
A slightly less formal black tie
When an invitation to a formal event calls for a black tie dress code, some men feel lost. Meanwhile, they usually followed it more than once already, because this dress code is often required at ceremonial banquets or other official events, such as a opera visits. It is also a formal dress code, but slightly less demanding than a white tie. The difference is a tuxedo (instead of a tailcoat) and the color of the bow tie, which in this case should be black.
Smart casual - elegant freedom, but still "rich"
This less formal dress code allows for more freedom when choosing clothes. Men can wear a well-tailored suit or jacket in combination with elegant trousers, and replace the shirt with an elegant turtleneck sweater. The choice of a t-shirt or sweater in a more casual style will also be acceptable in this case. However, remember to avoid eye-catching prints or dubious quality fabrics. In the case of shirts, it is worth reaching for those made of cotton fabrics, made of high-quality yarn, which look great, while guaranteeing the highest quality, durability and reliability.
Business casual - what does it actually mean?
This looser business style combines elements of formal and casual attire. This means that we can forget about the suit and tie, but we should not appear wearing, for example, shorts and sandals. It is best to choose elegant t-shirts, shirts, chinos or elegant jeans, and in the case of shoes - less formal shoes or sneakers. When it comes to choosing a business casual shirt, it is better to go for a slim fit and avoid oversized shirts that can look messy. It is worth paying attention to the right size. Both slim-cut and classic-cut shirts should fit well to the shoulders, chest and waist, emphasizing the silhouette, but still ensuring freedom of movement.
Tailor-made shirt - the key to all dress codes
There are many other dress codes, such as casual, resort formal, beach formal, and creative black tie. If we are unsure of what to wear to an event, we can always consult with the organizer or other guests to ensure that our attire is appropriate. It is equally important to feel comfortable and confident in it, while respecting the specific dress code and atmosphere of the meeting. Undoubtedly, our great ally, regardless of the circumstances, will always be a tailor-made shirt - made of high-quality fabric, perfectly matched and adapted to our preferences.
